Prevalence of CKD stages by age groups in NHANES 1999 to 2004 and the Beijing study. For NHANES, CKD was defined as persistent albuminuria (spot urine albumin-creatinine ratio >30 mg/g) or estimated GFR <60 mL/min/1.73 m2 using the MDRD Study equation. For the Beijing study, CKD was defined as persistent albuminuria, hematuria, or estimated GFR less than 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 using an equation that computes eGFR 23% higher than the MDRD Study equation.
